Final call for entries for the Concentra Award 2009

Just one week remains for entries for the “Concentra Award for Outstanding Video Journalism 2009”. The deadline for entries is 5pm on January 16th.  Organizers of the award have already received several dozen video pieces for the 10.000 euro award. The award also includes a special prize for short, rapidly created news items – the Breaking News Award.

The jury line up for the 2009 award is now also complete. Each year the jury is refreshed with three or four new members. This year’s new additions include Hans Laroes, Head of News at NOS, Pat Loughrey, Director of BBC Nations and Regions, Chief Editor of the online newspaper DerWesten.de, Katherina Borchert and Ben Rayner, Head of News, Al Jazeera, UK.

The full jury line-up is as follows:

  • * Hans Laroes (Head of News, NOS, Netherlands)
  • * Pat Loughrey (Director, Nations and Regions, BBC, UK)
  • * Katherina Borchert (Chief Editor, DerWesten.de, Germany)
  • * Leif Hedman (Director, SVT, Sweden)


About the Award

The Concentra Award is the world’s most prestigious award for outstanding video journalism. Now in its fourth year, the award is open to VJ pieces from broadcast TV, print and online news sites. The winner of the award, who will also receive 10.000 Euro in prize money, will be announced at the DNA2009 conference (www.dna2009.com) at Le Plaza Hotel, Brussels on March 4th . The special prize for breaking news stories will be presented at the same ceremony. Last year’s winning and shortlisted entries can be viewed at www.theconcentra.org.

The award aims to highlight and promote video journalism with the aim of encouraging journalists to film and edit their own work.
